Grey Fleet
With the introduction of the Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007 and Health & Safety (Offences) Act 2008, fines and custodial sentences can now be imposed placing a greater responsibility on organisations to comply with Health and Safety Legislation.
The act states that employers are required to "carry out an assessment of the risks to the health and safety of their employees including any driving activity on the road".
It should not be forgotten that irrespective of who owns the vehicle the Employer has the same corporate responsibilities and duty of care obligations.
Employee-owned vehicles which are used for business journeys commonly referred to as "Grey" Fleets fall within these demands.
